Domineer

I know that like me you wish (and sometimes wholeheartedly try) to be in control when it comes to love.

domineer
oppress; assume authority    be in the saddle, bend, bluster,
 boss around, browbeat, bulldoze, bully*,
call the shots, dominate, hector, henpeck,
 in the driver's seat, intimidate,
keep under thumb, kick around,
lead by the nose, menace, overbear,
 predominate, preponderate, prevail,
push the buttons, reign, rule,
rule the roost, run the show, run things,
 swagger, threaten, throw weight around,
tyrannize

Oranges and Osteichthyes

This piece came about as kind of a magical mystery for me!! Including the Pan theme, I put together the images thinking of Pan sort of on the look out for love for you.  I really like the idea of the goats looking out the window watching for that special someone to pass by and imagined them running to report when it happened!  The images of the oranges and fish were present in the original photograph of the window and I collaged the goats in.  I loved this "frame" of flowers and had no idea who Carl Linnaeus was but figured I could change the name or cover it somehow.  I had the feeling for this piece but the images seemed so random!   Because I really liked the way it looked I googled the name and was THRILLED to read that he was "father of modern taxonomy" and that his taxonomic approach became the systematic approach to the study of organisms, including fish.  It fit so well and to me incorporated the idea of the goats classifying and studying the potential companions passing by. The Chinese believe the orange is a prayer or wish for good fortune, and in Pagan traditions the fish is a feminine symbol of fertility and an attribute of the Goddess. Water is a natural emblem of the flow of the Divine Mother principal, and as such, all creatures of the water (including fish) are aspects of the fertility and power of the female deity. The definition of  Osteichthyes is :  also called bony fish, are a taxonomic group of fish that have bony, as opposed to fish with cartilaginous, skeletons.

So, there you have it!!

 Oranges and Osteichthyes!!!

I hope that who ever purchases this piece smiles when they look at it thinking of the potential that love has in making their life complete!!!

La Cascade!!

I thought it would be cool to give you some background info on my new work for the "Seed" show at The Raw Canvas this Friday March 2nd.  All week I will be blogging about each of the pieces.

I had originally planned on doing work involving weathered corroding type of material to portray the thought of going to seed.  Tom Robbins changed all of that!! I have really been on a goat kick lately and one of my favorite books of all time is Jitterbug Perfume.

I love the character Pan in this story (if you are unfamiliar with Pan you can read about him here) which goes with the "seed" theme rather nicely!!!  I wanted to show different feelings that love can conjure.

One of the papers I used is old piano sheet music. The song is La Cascade- The Waterfall.  Water is a symbol of emotion and the subconscious.  In this piece the waterfall represents the constant running and flowing movement of emotion.  The thought that the water moves at such a rushing speed that tends to take everything with it in its path - rocks, trees, any debris in the midst of a waterfall is subject to its pull. Sound a little like your brain trying to function amidst the sweet bliss of falling in love??!!  Between the waterfall and Pan, this lovely lass has no chance of escape!!
